I’ve been writing a lot of substack posts recently, publishing none, since I am not satisfied with the state of what and how I write. Part of the reason is thanks to this post about Learning By Writing and how organizing one’s ideas by writing them for a public audience is one of the best tools of improving one’s own personal understanding.
In my career I heavily subscribe to the idea that “Perfect is the enemy of good”, and my reluctance to post is certainly a betrayal of that principle, however in this microcosm of my life, I feel the desire to do an excellent, not merely an acceptable job. Topics I’ll be writing about are extremely varied, including Colonialism, Geoengineering, Novel Forms of Government, Better Systems of Inheritance, To The Lack of Modern Monuments and other weird things.
Most of all, I’ll be trying to distill the knowledge I gain from reading in the form of book reviews. For the past few years I’ve been increasing my quantity of quality reading, and I’ve gotten to the point of deliberately tackling The Entire Western Canon. I’m still on the Greeks. I have gotten through the Greek Tragedians, Comedians and most of the Historians, and will be publishing my thoughts on these soon. This post is just a public repository for the books I’ve read over the past 5 years, and probably and an indication of the sort of person I am. It’s published publicly not for you, but for me.
As a side note, if anyone reads this and has any book recommendations for me, I would greatly appreciate them along with a reason why you are recommending a particular book.
